SEFA DENİZ ALEMDAR
Sefa Deniz Alemdar, a veteran musician despite his young age, is a talented drummer who accompanied countless bands and solo artists of our country.
I watched him on stage time and time again. I witnessed the way he becomes a safety lock for his coworkers and friends. Even with only his presence on stage, Deniz is a safeguard of musical quality; not only for the ones on stage, but also for the audience. It’s not easy to desribe him based on the quality of this nation’s rock musicians.
His gentle style, his good nature, his positive thoughts, his kind and soft speech; all directly reflect to the way he plays the drums. But behind this joyous man and his shy smile, a nitpicky perfectionism is visibly present. You can understand that even from the way he lines up his drums and the way he plays the first note.
Despite the fact that he was initially inspired by progressive-symphonic jazz-rock and northern jazz, his drumming character is not limited by these elements. Deniz has a certain attitude, a unique character, and above all a great passion. A portrait of Frank Zappa he attached to the middle of his kick drum and the tattoo on his right arm (“In The Court of the Crimson King” album cover by King Crimson) are the embodied proofs of his character.
Regardless of the fact that he is the locomotive of the bands he plays with; Deniz is not a forte, but an andante type of musician. He shows his strenght, not with his muscles, but with his intelligence, sympathy, warm and melodic tone. If a need for comparison rises, we can say that he resides a thousand light years away from the babbling rabid dictator drummers. He’s more like a democrat politician who utilizes sounds in his efforts of persuasion.
